MLK365 Volunteer Day at Chosen 300 Ministries!

Chosen 300

Chosen 300 Ministries seeks to bring people of different groups together, helping them to realize that despite our differences in race, ethnic group, denomination, social class, economic classes, or faiths, we can unify ourselves for the common good.

Chosen 300 has been bringing volunteers together since 1996 to distribute meals and services to the homeless, to provide pre-release classes to incarcerated persons and to offer positive values-based programs for inner-city youth.

Chosen 300 needs volunteers to help carry out their Saturday meal service to homeless individuals. Volunteers are needed to perform the following tasks:

o    Prepare food

o    Serve food to homeless individuals

o    Assist with clean up of kitchen and dining area after the meal

o    Assist with other tasks as identified by Chosen 300 staff

Volunteers should dress in casual, comfortable clothing. Volunteers should wear comfortable footwear as the event will require a good amount of standing and walking around. Child volunteers ages 12 – 18 are welcome with parent supervision.

On street parking is available; parking is free on Ridge Avenue and Buttonwood Streets. Metered parking is available on Spring Garden and the other nearby streets. SEPTA's Broad Street line stops at nearby Broad & Spring Garden Streets, just 3 blocks west of Chosen 300.

Christian worship is provided for homeless guests prior to the meal to provide an avenue of hope. However, anyone of any faith is welcome to serve!

If you would like to volunteer, please RSVP in one of three ways:

1.  By reserving a space through this invitation

2.  Via email to mlk365@globalcitizen.us.com, please put "Chosen 300 February" in the subject line.

3. Call (215) 665-2655 to reserve a space.

Global Citizen is non-partisan organization dedicated to promoting civic engagement, community volunteering, civic responsibility and sustained active citizenship among diverse groups, particularly young people.

Our issues of focus include poverty, homelessness, at-risk youth, education, public health, digital inclusion, energy and the environment.  Global Citizen is a weaver of community webs, bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds.  We work to build diverse partnerships through volunteer service, thus realizing how much more we have in common than our differences.

Global Citizen was founded by Todd Bernstein, who helped Pennsylvania U.S. Senator Harris Wofford and Atlanta Congressman John Lewis create the National Martin Luther King Day of Service in 1994.  Bernstein started the first local King Day of Service in Philadelphia in 1996.

MLK365 is a year-round program that promotes sustainable civic engagement and volunteer opportunities.

The goal of MLK365 is to ensure that Dr. King's legacy and principles are embraced throughout the entire year.  The initiative emphasizes Dr. King's legacy of nonviolence, social justice, equality and excellence.

MLK365 serves as a year-round clearing house for continuing service opportunities, as well as supporting and designing volunteer programs for its partners.
